A few weeks ago I read When Breath Becomes Air. It's the memoir of Paul Kalanithi, a neurosurgeon who was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in his final year of residency. His book is so raw. It's beautiful, heartbreaking, and infuriating all at the same time. Paul talks a lot about time.  It made me stop and think about how I've chosen to spend it.

Frisbee for ward FHE? Side braid.

Running 20 minutes late for work? Side braid.

First date? Side braid.

Friend's wedding? Side braid.

Meeting the leader of the free world? Side braid.

Accepting a Nobel Prize? Side braid.

I consider cutting hair too short to wear it in a side braid to be one of my greatest mistakes. It's the perfect hairstyle. The effortless short of chic that Audrey Hepburn would approve of. And really, what more of an endorsement do you need?

Over the past few months I've focused my scripture study on patterns of revelation: How the Lord speaks to his people, when he speaks, the circumstances surrounding instances of revelation, the preparation of the receiver.

Dear Maine,

Love,
A
