You may be thinking that I am about to divulge all the secrets of my love life based on the title of this post, but, before you get too excited, let me just say that you will be sorely disappointed.

Yesterday at work some co-workers and I decided to delve in the philosophical realm.  We started with some easy: What is love? (baby, don't hurt me...sorry I couldn't resist).  The answers of respect, putting another first, etc. came but we wanted something a little more tangible than that.

We came up with a few litmus tests to determine when you're in love (thanks to all the contributors!):

Love is when you let them eat the last piece of cheesecake.

Love is when you don't want hang out with anyone else.

Love is when we're willing to give them a foot massage.

Love is when you let them choose the radio station, even if it's oldies.

Love is crossing international borders for them.

Love is when you can kiss them even if they have bad breath.

Love is when you let them DVR over your favorite show.

Love is when they go fishing with you even if they hate it.

Love is when you spill your spaghetti and it doesn't even matter.

Love is pretending not to be cold so she can have your jacket.

Love is pausing a video game to text her back.

Last night I was talking with a friend who had been having a hard day.  She suggested that we play the 'Thankful Game' to help her feel better.  In this game you alternate between the two players saying what you're thankful for.  We began and said everything from thunderstorms to flannel pj pants.  At point I said that I was thankful for my professors.  I said it just kind of in passing, but as I was thinking about this later I realized how truly grateful I am for them.

Teaching is such a selfless profession.  My father and my brother are both teachers and they spend so much time helping others.  I remember Papa Lo leaving in the evening to go to the rescue of a student who was struggling in class or teaching the morning he broke his hand so his students would be prepared.  Papa Lo has bought books, written letters, and made countless phone calls on behalf of his students.

I am grateful for my professors who spend just as much time on my behalf.  I am grateful that they plan lessons, hold office hours, and answer my countless questions.  It is so wonderful how invested they are in my future! I am truly blessed to be in this situation. How amazing it is to learn from these renowned scholars and teachers. The selfless sacrifice of teachers everywhere, I'm sure, will continue to bless the lives of students for years and years to come.
Yesterday as I was leaving work I stopped into one of my supervisor's office, grabbed a pack of Skittles, and ran to class.  It was looking like it was going to be a good day.  As I was bouncing along, listening to the new Imagine Dragons album (fantastic!) I realized that there was a major flaw with my fun-size bag of Skittles: there were waaay too many yellow ones! Why do they even MAKE yellow Skittles?! No one likes them. The ratio of purple:yellow Skittles is always off. There's never enough purple and too many yellow.  Honestly, it's a crime.

To deal with this dilemma I alternate between two schools of thought on how to properly get through a bag of Skittles.
1) I eat the yellow first.  This makes sure that I end the bag on a high note (the purple).  However, by the time I eat the mountain of yellow, which is inevitably in every package, I am pretty much done with Skittles and can feel the sugar on my teeth...not good.

This leads me to school of thought 2) Eat the yellow ones last.  This way I know I'll enjoy the purple and red ones, but I leave the situation with the after taste of simulated lemon in my mouth which I am not a fan of.  I have this thing where I can't throw half of the bag away so by the end I'm upset because of the sugar on my teeth AND because I'm eating yellow skittles. So really option two is a lose lose.

Maybe the real answer to my problem is stop eating Skittles...or just buy the wild berry pack :)

Notice the disproportionate amount of yellow present in this image....poor form, Skittles

New semester-new routine, right? Before classes started I began to map out my weekly routine and realized that I just wouldn't have enough time for my normal workout schedule.  So to avoid the 'senior 17' (I'm looking at you, creamery and also fifteen doesn't start with an 's' so hence the 17) I decided to switch it up a little bit with....

SWIMMING! I was on the swim team my senior year and loved it.  Obviously it was time to pick it up again :) I've been a couple days and swam a half mile each (this is where you should be impressed) and am just loving it! There are several reasons that I now feel that swimming is superior to my regular gym/weights routine:

1) It takes waaay less time.  I crank out a half mile in about half an hour so between walking to the pool, swimming, and walking home, I'm cutting my work out time in half
2) The pools is less crowded than the gym so I can usually get my own lane or share with just one other person which is great since I usually take a friend.
3) Swimming is a full body work out so I don't have to worry about getting to every machine (which is impossible sometimes) because I can do everything all at once
4) Swimming is the best sport in the Olympics so there's a coolness factor there
5) Googles and a swim cap....another coolness factor :)
