Ever since I decided to go into to business I've dreamed of the day when I would go to New York for some posh meeting and live the big city dream. I was shocked at how quickly this moment came. This summer I will be interning for Goldman Sachs in Salt Lake and earlier this week I flew to NYC for an interview. The weather was terrible, the taxis scary, and the interview great :) All in all, it was a fantastic trip. While I was there I learned a few things and have decided to impart of my knowledge:

  1. Taxi drivers will do whatever it takes to get you to your destination as quickly as possible, unless of course that destination is the airport, in which case they will proceed to take the longest route possible.

  2. The Big Apple will have awful weather until all of your appointments are finished and it is time to return home to Provo.

  3. The hot chocolate in Jersey City is considerably warmer than hot chocolate elsewhere, so don't drink it too fast or you won't be able to taste anything for several days.

  4. Unless you speak fluent subway map don't try to read the metro system map in a short amount of time. Chances are that you will be able to walk to the New York Stock Exchange faster than you can decipher the map.Untitled

  5. On an unrelated note, when walking to the NYSE, make sure your Google maps app is oriented the same direction you are walking. This will help avoid any potential embarrassment from walking around the same block three times before you realize you're wrong and Google is not.

  6. Just stop at the bakery on the corner; you know you want to and you'll regret not doing so later.

  7. TAKE THE UMBRELLA!

  8. Plan extra time to restraighten your hair before your interview.

  9. You should order room service once in your life. Dinner just tastes better in bed while you're watching The Office sometimes.

  10.  Ignore the crosswalk signs--everyone else does and you'll stick out like a sore thumb if you don't. #shesnotfromroundhere

  11. Take the ferry and buy a huge croissant with the twenty bucks you saved by not taking a cab.

  12. Don't complain about the rain. If the clouds are low enough they'll cover up the tops of the buildings and you can pretend they go on forever.

  13. If you get lost, just pretend you know where you're going...no one will ever know, unless, like me, you stand on the subway platform looking utterly confused, then someone will take pity on you and give you directions.

  14. Heels and the airport don't mix.

  15. When in doubt, call your mama or your big brother who used to live in NYC.

I love the Gospel!

It is the best thing ever :)

Bill Cosby that is! I love Bill Cosby. If I could have lunch with anyone he would definitely make the short list. I mostly love him because of The Cosby Show. That was sitcom gold! I think I've seen every episode and I'm not in the least ashamed of it. It's full of wisdom and humor...win win.

A few gems from The Cosby Show:

------------------

Cliff: This is not Burger King..you can't have it your way!

------------------

Cliff: Is that what you are wearing to school?

Rudy: Yes

Cliff: Go in your room and change. You look like a fortune teller.

------------------

Cliff: I'm so smart, I'm smarter than me.

------------------

Clair: Denise, deep down, you know you can pretty much do anything you want because you know we're always there to bail you out. You see, we're your safety net. We're so good at it, half the time you don't even know we're doing it. And, your father and I accept that responsibility because we're your parents. And, you'd better not ever forget that, young lady. Because if you ever take this attitude with us again, you can take whatever is in that bank account of yours and go discover America!

------------------

Cliff (to Vanessa): Your mother and I are rich; you have nothing!
This is not a post about the man of my dreams, the apple of my eye, the cheese to my macaroni, or any other epithet about love. In fact, this one isn't even about a boy. Lately I've found that I short, awkward spaces of time where I don't really have a lot to do. It's never enough time to run home, take a nap, or get any productive studying in . As if heaven knew I had idle time, I was sent a gift from above: TedTalks.

TedTalks are a collection of lectures, concerts, and speeches dedicated to spreading thought provoking ideas and inspirational messages. Typically they are given by business leaders, writers, musicians, scientists at the forefront of their field, and others at the cutting edge of their profession. I love them and watch them all the time.

One of my favorites is by JK Rowling. I mean, who doesn't love Jo? :) She gives incredible insight and talks in that delightful British accent we all love AND she's the creator of Harry Potter. It's a win win win.

There's a TedTalk coming to BYU later this month...you know I'm going to be there!
My parents are heading across the pond (and not taking me with them...). They'll be in the beautiful city of London, hanging out with Will and Kate while I suffer in the tundra of Provo. Don't worry, I'm not jealous or anything :)

As my mother prepares for departure I figured I would give her a few pointers to make her journey smooth and delightful. I wrote her the following email:

Dear Esteemed Guest,

Welcome to London! We are delighted to have you in this beautiful city and are confident that you will find your stay amicable. Prior to your visit we wanted to offer a few suggestions to make your trip as memorable as possible:

1. Tea is served promptly at 2:30. Arriving late is highly unacceptable.

2. Remember to wear an obscenely ostentatious hat at all times.

3. The hood of the car is the bonnet and the trunk is the boot.

4. Both Maggie Smith and Judy Dench are Dames.

5. Fish and chips should always be eaten out of a newspaper lined dish.

6. Notting Hill is a posh neighbor, not a trashy movie.

7. Mind the gap.

8. Remember to say things like 'Jolly good' and 'That's a good chap' people will think you're a local.

9. When referring to a shopping cart remember to say trolley.

10. Don't let the Muggles get ya down.

Again we are elated to welcome you to the UK.

Long live Will and Kate!

She found each of these tips extremely helpful. I realized though that I forgot one important item of business.

Remember, the London Eye looks like this:

Just wanted to clear up any potential confusion. Happy travels!
I wish it was summer today. In Provo it was alllllmost warm enough to not wear my jacket. Spring is teasing us. I kind of want to skip spring though and go straight to summer. I miss those days when the sun beats and kisses your cheeks and before you know it the ends of your hair are bleached. I want to travel and hike and go to the beach. So, c'mon, summer! Get here all ready!

[caption id="attachment_801" align="aligncenter" width="334"]isn't this dreamy? isn't this dreamy?[/caption]

It rained today. I love rain. I love the smell of rain. I love the steely grey skies rain brings. I love the sound of rain on the roof as I fall asleep. I love rain.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="710"]Image Me in the rain.[/caption]

Rain makes me want to cuddle up on the couch, watch Pride and Prejudice, and drink hot chocolate. Rain always makes me nostalgic for England, not that I've been there or anything. It makes me want to read a good book and wear sweatpants. Rain also makes me want to bake cookies so the aroma mixes with the fresh smell all through my house. Rain also makes me want to go on road trips. I love the sound of the rain beneath the tires and soft drizzle on the windshield.

Today I sat on the couch and listened to the rain splatter on the window. I loved every second of it. I love rain

I like to change things up :) Blogger has been a faithful companion for 2+ years, but I decided that I like the layout on wordpress better soooo....I have a new blog! It's really the same story..it even has the same name :) I won't be posting here anymore but you can keep reading at angelamlopez.wordpress.com

I decided that I wanted to change things up a little bit. While I love Blogger and it has served me well for a long time (two years!) I decided to try something new. It's like when you go to get a new haircut: you've gotten the Mandy Moore/Carrie Underwood cut forever but you kind of want to try the Emma Watson pixie cut.

So even though it's a new look...it's the same story :)

On a completely unrelated note, my roommate Katie and I are doing a Lazy Man Iron Man! We have the entire month of March to run 26.2 miles, bike 112 miles, and swim 2.4 miles. I am so excited :) I always need a little incentive to get to the gym. If I finish, which I will, I get a free t-shirt...who doesn't love a free t-shirt?! So...I'm off to the gym!
